More listening suggestions

Collage of six children's and young adult book covers featuring titles by Frances Hodgson Burnett, Craig Silvey, Tim Winton, and Jaclyn Moriarty, including 'The Secret Garden', 'Runt', and 'The Stolen Prince of Cloudburst'.

For our first audiobook recommendations, including an overview of the apps to listen to them on – check out our first post on the subject: Lets talk audio books.

We discovered the magic of audio books on our lap, so now whenever we jumped in the car for a road trip, the girls eagerly ask what’s on the wish list this time.

So here’s some of the ones we have enjoyed since the first update

The Secret Garden: cue two or three chapters of complaining from Miss Em “This is boring”, “I don’t like this little girl” and then when we get back in the car after a stop “Mum, put the book back on”, “Who’s been in the garden! I need to know”, “Where is that crying coming from!”

The classics might be a little slow to get going, the language may take some time to get used to but the imagery and the story is magical.

Highly recommend adding this one to the list!

Jaclyn Moriaty: Extremely Inconvenient Adventures Of Bronte Mettlestone, The Slightly Alarming Tale of the Whispering Wars & The Stolen Prince Of CloudBurst.

This book series was an excellent accidental find! They are enthralling, extremely cleaver and fun for the whole family.

Plus they are long! Which is awesome for road trips. Each book links to the previous one, sometimes in surprising ways. We had lots of fun guessing who was who and how they might relate. We’re looking forward to the next trip to start book 4!

Hot tip: these were free on Audible!

Runt: A great adventure and a heart warming story that kept all of us listening as you follow the two characters through their adventures. A nice easy, fun listen – perfect for road trips!

Blueback: Oh my water-loving heart! This book is all the feels.

The beauty of WA, the importance of the ocean and those that know it well – a captivating story for the whole family.
