After breakfast in the camp kitchen, we packed up (in the rain, again) and hit the road for Cobar.

The trip wasn’t the most pleasant. When it’s wet and windy towing the van has it’s challenges, but I think we were lucky to get out when we did – the river was high!
We had fun despite the rain, stopping to check out the Woolshed, The Big Bogan and the cafe at Nyngan.

The girls were disappointed we couldn’t get to the park in Cobar this time, it’s a great spot, but Mum said she was so wet after setting up she probably didn’t need a shower – so it was time for a games afternoon and nice dinner in.

Day two also bought some challenges as the windscreen was cracked sometime during the wet trip and the microwave blew up when we tried to heat the girls wraps!
I have to say there was a moment when I wondered exactly how I was going to get a smoking microwave that is bolted into the van (with no access to the bolts) out in a hurry! Thankfully it didn’t come to that and it’s now just a heavy bread box.
We were feeling a little deflated with the weather and two expensive issues on day two but to be honest, that’s travelling.
You just have to laugh it off or tackle it like Emily did! Thank goodness for Mum’s homemade spag bol she had packed us, the fantastic camp kitchen and a pretty spectacular sunset.

The next morning we set off on a big travel day – due to the weather we couldn’t get to White Cliffs so we were headed straight for Broken Hill.
The kids were not keen to be in the car for so long, but they smashed it!
Early into the drive Emily had declared she was having a sleep, a moment later she said, “I just can’t sleep, the trees are too exciting!” There’s so much to see out here.
We’re glad she didn’t drop off as not long after we started to see the goats along the roadside and then… EMU’s!! Real, live, wild Emus.
I think she counted 40 by the time we arrived in Broken Hill. For the locals out here it’s normal to see them but for those of us from the east Coast it’s the first time we have seen them wild. It was a highlight of the day.
We stopped at MacCullochs Rest for lunch and a play in the playground. We also snagged an epic Spotto here (and used the date roll holder for the first time on the trip – lucky we had it!!)

We rolled on into Broken Hill late afternoon and set up at the Regional Events Centre (Racecourse).
The night finished with an unexpected dinner with old friends which was more than just good for the soul.
