Family

Day 3 & 4 – Jessie’s Dream’s maiden voyage

Our days in Brisbane were all about family, those born to us and those we choose.

Thursday we farewelled Garth’s grandmother, Mor in a beautiful ceremony that remembered her amazing story and many of the special people in it.

While covid has undoubtedly taken so much from many, it has also given rise to changes that seem obvious now. It was heart-warming to know that many family members, both in Australia and those in Denmark, were able to take part thanks to the live streaming facilities that are now part of how we do things.

Mor was known as Mor (the Danish word for Mum) to almost all that knew her, very few people knew her actual name – it was interesting to watch as the girls connected the name on the program to themselves (despite completely understanding who she was to them).

Matilda sat enthralled as she listened the eulogy that detailed some Mor’s life, growing up in Denmark and emigrating to Australia (by boat!) with two children. It’s a shame they never really had the chance to hear some of her stories of her Denmark days directly from her.

The rest of the day was spent connecting with the family, hair dressing with the big girls, games and dinner with cousin John and the family. After more than a year apart, it was lovely to spend quality time with them.

Friday was all about swimming. While Garth went to spend time with his Aunty the girls, Tristan and I hit the pool. It was sooo hot!

We got to spend some nice time hanging out at the van and played a round of mini-golf with the master. I don’t think Tristan will take on a kids golf instructor role anytime soon 🤣

The rest of the day was spent swimming and hanging out at the van. We were lucky to have a quick visit from Grant and the dinner with the big girls, my beautiful Tash and the ever charming Oliver.

As I said – family 🥰

We would like to acknowledge the traditional owners of the Yuggerah country and pay our respects to the elders past, present and emerging.
