Paddle boats and the mighty Darling

Day 12 – NSW road trip 2020

Today was the day to explore Bourke. We headed into town to wander and see what we could find – it was great to just walk around town and enjoy.

Mum was a little jealous of the garden beds in full bloom – the same flowers she has in summer at home! We enjoyed the walk, finding the old wharf (well a new wharf 1/3 size of the original built in recognition of the original), some delicious goods at the Bakery, a big park to play in, the Council building and of course the railway station. The kids, Garth and Dad also watched the historic Crossley engine kick into gear down by the river.

Garth will have to add photos of that one.

After a quick lunch back at the vans we walked down to the paddleboat for a trip down the mighty Darling. We arrived at the paddleboat early – so it’s was selfie time πŸ™‚

Lots of food for thought along here, thinking about how the river must have once been, looking at the height of the bridges and the wharf as well as what it may look like in flood.

The paddleboat ride was a beautiful way to end day and our visit to Bourke. Back on the road again tomorrow.

Oh and exciting news for Miss Emily tonight – after weeks of sore teeth we have two wobbly ones!

We would like to acknowledge the traditional owners of the Wongabion lands we explored today and pay our respects to the elders past, present and emerging.
