Day 11 – NSW road trip 2020
Starting to wish I didn’t number the days. Reality is closer than I care to admit.
After the excitement of yesterday we packed up and left Lightning Ridge – we were somewhat sad to go, it’s a great place and we will be back.
We headed off towards Bourke, first stop Walgett, where the girls were disappointed to find the hot springs were closed (we weren’t going swimming anyway!) but a big park and some exercise equipment made up for it and they ran off some energy.
We found these great little birds, my sources tell me they are Apostle birds. They have become a regular on the trip since here. Such cute little sounds they make.

Back in the convey and we headed to Brewarrina for lunch by the river.
The girls and Garth met two lovely indigenous ladies at the river who told them all about fishing in the river, how it had changed and the effect the drought had. It was a lovely learning experience for them.

Last leg was on to Bourke – we had to unpack in the rain and cold (yes – it’s winter but it’s also Bourke!) but once the sun came back out we were right. The kids loved the hooks in the bathrooms which were made out of horseshoes.
A good day travelling, family dinner and everyone tucked into bed after a sunset and some star gazing. Can’t get much better than that.

We would like to acknowledge the traditional owners of the lands we explore and pay our respects to the elders past, present and emerging.
Today we left Kamilaroi country, travelled through Wailwan country and into Wongaibon country where we will spend the next few days.
